What's the best metric for marketing success?
Followers? Nope. Anyone can get those. This plastic skeleton has 200k...
Revenue? Sometimes. But one big sale can fool you into thinking everything’s working.
For Jo’s Painted Pebbles — a small shop in Jersey — there was one thing we cared about:
Footfall.
Marketing Directly to Shoppers
For Jo’s Painted Pebbles — a real, local shop selling exactly what you think it does — we agreed: footfall was our truest metric.
But how do you actually track that?
We’re not standing at the door with a clipboard. And short of monitoring every customer like a dystopian overlord, we needed the next best thing:
Google Maps visit data.
It’s not perfect. Not every visit gets logged, and a few might be people walking past. But it’s consistent, it reflects real-world interest, and most importantly: it moves when marketing works.

Turning Visibility into Visits
We got to work.
1. We optimised Jo’s Google Maps listing.
New photos, a rewritten description with charm and clarity, and a steady push for glowing reviews. It's basic stuff, but most local businesses overlook it — and the difference it makes is huge.

2. We improved Jo’s local SEO.
People were already searching for things like “handmade Jersey gifts” and “souvenirs in St Helier” — they just weren’t finding Jo. We updated her site with smart, local keywords and structured content, helping her show up where it mattered.

3. We brought her most magical idea to life: Herd of Jersey.
Every pebble Jo paints is a little Jersey cow — hand-painted, individually named and numbered. When customers buy one, they’re encouraged to take it on their travels and send Jo a photo from wherever it ends up.
Over time, she collected hundreds of these — from New York to New Zealand — and manually kept track of every single one.
That’s where we came in.
We turned her archive into a fully interactive map, letting visitors explore over 200+ pebble adventures around the world.
We built a dedicated page, embedded the map, and started using it in blog posts, link-building, and social content. People loved it. Travel bloggers picked it up, local media gave it a shoutout, and customers came back to buy a second cow — just to post a photo from somewhere new.
4. We connected the offline and online worlds.
To keep things simple and discoverable, we created QR codes that linked straight to Jo’s Google Maps listing. We placed them on local guides, noticeboards, and in neighbouring businesses — perfect for tourists wandering town, looking for something memorable.

What We Saw
More search traffic. More visibility on Maps. More customers through the door — and more pebbles travelling the globe.
And the best part? None of this required flashy ads or huge budgets. Just thoughtful content, solid SEO, and a great idea brought to life in the right way.

Why This Matters for You
Jo turned her passion into something she could share. But none of it would’ve worked if people hadn’t been able to find her in the first place.
Whether you're a one-person shop or something much bigger, good marketing starts by getting the basics right - then finding the stories that make people care.
We help you do both. Want to chat about how?
