AI isn’t here to write your marketing for you (or it shouldn't be).

But it is brilliant at speeding up the parts you’d otherwise put off. For me, its most important function is to improve the quality of my work at the review stage.

Here are 7 copy-and-paste prompts I use with Jersey businesses to spark ideas, sharpen copy, and save hours.

1. Turn Your ‘About Us’ Page into the Ultimate Intro

I run a small [TYPE OF BUSINESS] in Jersey.

Rewrite the paragraph below as a punchy 25-word intro that would make a great homepage or LinkedIn headline.

Paragraph: “{{PASTE YOUR CURRENT ABOUT TEXT}}”

Tone: friendly but clear, no jargon.

Why it works

Most small businesses have ‘About’ sections that read more like a timeline than a reason to care. A sharp 25-word version helps anywhere - headers, bios, meta descriptions.

2. Plan a Week of Genuinely Good Social Posts

I run a [TYPE OF BUSINESS] in Jersey.

Give me 5 content ideas I could post this week on Instagram, Facebook & LinkedIn.

Please include:

– a headline or hook

– a short caption idea

– 1 suggestion for a photo or video I could take myself

Keep the tone local, helpful and human - not generic or corporate.

Why it works

This prompt won’t flood your feed with AI-written filler. It’s idea-first, and encourages you to add your voice, your photos, and your experience - exactly how it should be.

3. What Are My Customers Actually Thinking?

Act like a curious customer browsing a business like mine for the first time.

Ask me 5 questions you might genuinely want answered before buying.

My business: [TYPE], based in Jersey.

Don’t be generic - ask things a real person might think, based on our island context.

Why it works

We’re often too close to our own websites and offers to see what’s missing. This prompt shows you what people might be wondering - and gives you ideas for content, FAQs or homepage copy that actually helps.

4. Stress-Test Your Homepage Copy

Evaluate the homepage copy below for clarity, relevance, and a single clear call-to-action.

Flag any jargon, missing trust elements, or weak headlines.

Give 3 specific improvements I could make in under 15 minutes.

Homepage copy: {{PASTE HERE}}

Why it works

Think of this like a free editor. ChatGPT is great at spotting fluff, repetition and vague promises - especially if you give it the right lens.

5. What Are My Competitors Saying That I’m Not?

Compare the websites of the following local businesses in the same space:

1. {{COMPETITOR A URL}}

2. {{COMPETITOR B URL}}

3. {{COMPETITOR C URL}}

Summarise how a Jersey customer might compare them.

Then give me 2 opportunities I could use to stand out.

Why it works

This saves hours of scrolling and helps you spot things you may be doing just like everyone else - and where you could say something new.

6. Nail Your Offer Before You Spend a Penny on a Website

I’m thinking about starting this business in Jersey: [brief idea].

Ask me 5 questions to clarify the offer, pricing, and audience.

Then write:

– A 1-sentence value proposition

– 1 quick way I could test interest this weekend without building a website

Why it works

Perfect for early ideas or side hustles. Before you spend time or money, pressure-test your idea and get one tiny experiment live.

7. Turn a Testimonial into a Story

I’ve got this review from a happy customer:

“{{PASTE}}”

Turn it into a short social post that tells a story - not just a quote.

Include a hook, short caption, and light call to action to book, visit or get in touch.

Keep it under 80 words.

Why it works

A good review is gold - but just pasting it into your feed often gets ignored. This helps you wrap it into a micro-story that your next customer actually reads.

A Note on Using AI Well

I love tools like ChatGPT - but I don’t let it write for me. I use it the same way I’d work with a creative friend with unlimited patience.

When I’m stuck, it helps me get started. When I’ve got too many ideas, it helps direct my focus. But the final copy is always mine. And I think it should be yours too.
